Target: to explore the relationship between Mathematics and music
Tourist route: Casa da Música (Oporto) - Music Museum (Lisbon)
The relationship between Mathematics and music is very close.
From the study of frequencies, in which acoustic phenomena related to Physics, to instrument tuning, in which arithmetic is present, to the very analysis and composition techniques in which group theory is found.
Still in the range of the composition, we can find a style of composition that can be considered precedent of the random compositions, the Musikalisches Würfersiele (Dice Musical Game) popular in XVIII and XIX centuries, being assigned to Mozart.
The game consists of a sequence of measures taken randomly by throwing one or two dice and adding up the score obtained.
1) The number of bars is indicated on the horizontal axis;
2) The number left on the die is indicated on the vertical axis (2-12 for the minuet and 1-6 for the trio);
3) For example, to compose the 1st bar of the minuet, if the sum of the numbers issued in the data is 9, it should be played bar 119.
